Feasibility Study on the Solid Waste Management Facility for Local Government Unit Cluster- MIMAROPA

Duration: November 2020 – December 2021

Despite the enactment of the Republic Act (RA) 9003 in 2000, the Local Government Units' (LGUs) compliance with the law requirements is considerably low. Finding suitable disposal sites for SLF's is challenging, especially in highly urbanized cities (HUCs). Materials Recovery Facilities (MRFs), source reduction, and the other interventions as enumerated in RA 9003 were already implemented. The majority of the established MRFs, with composting and recycling components, are in an "On and Off" operation. Unfortunately, there is no continuity in the efforts initiated by most LGUs, except perhaps those implemented by some non-government and private entities.

This project is aligned with the DENR-EMB's long and medium-term goals and programs to formulate and develop a comprehensive plan for the proper and sustainable execution of waste management in the country starting from the LGU level under the jurisdiction of the EMB MIMAROPA Region.
